Due to excellent results and future expansion plans, the Engineering Department Head will play a key role in mine planning for both the short term and long term.Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the mining engineering department
Develop short-term and long-term plans for coal mining operations
Manage the department budget effectively, including cost control and financial forecasting
Oversee and manage a team of mining engineers, technicians, and support staff
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the department
Allocate resources efficiently to optimise coal extraction processes
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and promote sustainable mining practices
Provide technical guidance and expertise to resolve complex mining engineering issues
Collaborate with other departments such as geology, environmental, and maintenance to optimise mining operations
Prepare reports on departmental activities, production, costs, and performance indicators
Articulate strategy to operational teams you will take the lead in mining engineering department

To succeed in this Engineering Department Head (Mining) role, a bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees such as a master's or PhD may be preferred for certain positions.Key Requirements:

10 years' experience in mining engineering (dominantly in coal mining), with progressive responsibility and leadership roles
Strong technical knowledge of mining engineering principles, methods, and technologies related to coal mining
Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations governing coal mining operations, including safety and environmental regulations
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate a team
Ability to analyse complex problems and develop innovative solutions to improve mining operations
Understanding of financial principles and budget management to effectively manage departmental budgets
Commitment to safety and a track record of promoting a safe working environment
Understanding of environmental issues related to coal mining and a commitment to sustainable practices
Proficiency in mining software and tools used for mine planning, design, and optimisation
